Though you may enter if you park well off to the side and DO NOT BLOCK THE GATE.
It is approximately a .5 mile hike down to the picnic area.
**********
PICNIC AREA

It is closed on Tuesday’s and Wednesdays during this time.

This area features picnic tables, charcoal grills, drinking water,
and restrooms for public use.

LICK HOLLOW NATURE TRAIL
located around Picnic Area

This 3/4 mile long trail is a leisurely walk through the picnic area. The trail is self-guided. Interpretive pamphlets* can be found at the picnic area. It will take about an hour to walk the trail and stop at each of the 20 interpretive stops. Along the way, you will learn about a few of the tree species native to this area, how riparian areas are important for wildlife, about insects and disease, and other pertinent topics.

*Pamphlets are in the Trail Guide boxes at Trailheads or in the Main Office.

Though having to hike this trail is not necessary to find your way to the cache, I do recommend if you have some extra time. It is quite interesting and informative.

The Nature Trail intersects the Pine Knob Trail on the other side of Picnic Area, so it is possible, considering time, to hike a section of this trail then head out on the Pine Knob Trail to the cache area and then return and finish hiking the Nature Trail.

Trailhead coords are listed below in waypoints.
**********

PINE KNOB TRAIL

This trail is about 2 miles long, starting from the Picnic Area and ending at the Pine Knob Overlook. Trail parallels Lick Run for part of its length, but is a rugged trail for the most part. The elevation of this trail changes 1,600 vertical feet from its lowest point at the picnic area, to its highest at the Pine Knob Overlook. When hiking this trail, be prepared for a 4 hour round trip. Pack plenty of liquids during the summer, and warm clothes in the winter.

Be sure to stop and see the Grist Mill Stone on your way out the Pine Knob Trail.

**********

Cache is an ammo can and will be found off the Pine Knob Trail.

Round trip hike from the Pine Knob Trailhead is only .75 mile.

**********

So bring a picnic lunch and spend some time.

You may just be glad you did.

GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN and as always BE SAFE
