The Quorn Hunt - part 1 Multi-Cache
greedygreenfrog: Many, many thanks to The Red Squirrels for looking after this cache for me for over 2 years since our move to Singapore. As we are still not sure when we are going to return to UK we have decided it is time to archive the cache. I am pleased so many people have enjoyed this walk as much as I used to and hopefully one day I will bring it back.

The above coordinates are for the start of this walk. THEY ARE NOT THE CACHE COORDINATES. You will need to follow the trail and answer the questions to find the cache coordinates. The cache is a small plastic sandwich box in a camouflage bag.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO CLIMB OVER ANY FENCES OR GO ANYWHERE NEAR THE RAILWAY LINES TO FIND THE CACHE.
[The Greedy Green Frogs have moved to Singapore for 2 years. The Red Squirrels (theredsquirrels) have very kindly offered to keep an eye on our caches for us. Many thanks. x x ]
This cache hunt begins in the village of Quorn. This cache can be done alone or it makes a very pleasant circular walk if completed with The Quorn Hunt – part 2 (and a quicker way back to your car). It will take approximately 1 - 1¼ hours to walk to the cache for The Quorn Hunt - part 1 and about 1½ - 2 hours to complete the whole circular walk with The Quorn Hunt - part 2. The walk is along footpaths (which can be muddy after rain) and very quiet country lanes.
The name for this cache is taken from the Quorn Hunt, probably one of the best known fox hunts in Great Britain (it has acted within the law since the Hunting Act 2004). The Hunt takes its name from the village of Quorn; the hounds were kennelled in Quorn from 1753 until 1904. The Quorn Hunt is one of the oldest in England and was founded in 1696 by Mr Thomas Boothby of Tooley Park, Leicestershire.
Part of the walk runs very near to the Great Central Railway. Trains run every weekend of the year, bank holidays and daily in the summer. The Great Central Railway is the UK’s only double track, main line heritage railway. It’s the only place in the world where full size steam engines can be seen passing each other.
The trail passes very close to another cache, ‘B is for Bye Bike’ (between waypoints 4 and 5).
On street parking is available on Chaveney Road in Quorn (around N52° 44. 423, W001° 10.695), then set off up Buddon Lane to begin your walk.
The cache can be found by answering the following questions then using the answers to find the coordinates for the cache.
Waypoint 1:
N52° 44.320
W001° 11.000
“Where there’s a will there’s a way”
The house number is 2__, what is the missing number? = A
Waypoint 2:
N52° 44.279
W001° 11.065
How many wooden posts are there in the rope fence? = B
Waypoint 3:
N52° 44.190
W001° 11.090
How many birds are there on the nature conservation sign? = C
Waypoint 4:
N52° 43.988
W001 11.596
The number on the telegraph pole is 1__, what is the missing number? = D
Waypoint 5:
N52° 43.761
W001° 11.884
Stop here and look back.
How many foxes are there on the roof of the cottage? = E
Waypoint 6:
N52° 43.704
W001° 11.830
How many floodlights are there around the tennis court? = F
Waypoint 7:
N52° 43.502
W001° 11.849
Find the sign, ‘Bridleway to _____’
How many letters are there in the missing word? = G
Waypoint 8:
N52° 43.555
W001° 11.318
How many big arrows are there on the yellow post? = H
Now work out the final co-ordinates using
a = A + 1
b = B – 3
c = C + 4
d = D + 3
e = E – 1
f = F + 3
g = G - 6
h = H
Substitute these numbers in:
N52° 4a.bcd
W001° 1e.fgh
PLEASE NOTE: - THE CACHE HAS HAD TO BE MOVED, IT IS NOW 20 FEET FROM THESE COORDINATES BEHIND A LARGE TREE. Many thanks again to The Red Squirrels for looking after this cache for us while we are away. xxx
