MessieurPhil: It has been fun to place, observe and maintain this cache, but CO can no longer take care of it. My thanks to all who found it and helped maintain it.

Horse Island is part of the Rachael Carson Estuarine Reserve, located across Taylor's Creek from the delightful North Carolina town of Beaufort. It can only be reached by boat. On a nice day, it is a good paddle from the Beaufort waterfront.
This cache is hidden at the eastern end of the southern side of Horse Island, which is within the Rachael Carson Estuarine Reserve.
There are feral (wild) horses on Horse Island. If you bring binoculars, you'll stand a good chance of seeing them and lots of other estuarine wildlife. However, to help preserve this beautiful setting, you should not approach these animals nor disturb their habitat.
A suggested parking and boat-launching point is shown below. If you are kayaking, the round trip is about 5 miles and, accounting for winds and tides, will take at least a couple of hours. Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and shoes to protect your feet from shells and prickly underbrush.
Please be sure to practice "Cache In - Trash Out"!
And finally, PLEASE BE SURE THAT THE CACHE IS SECURE WHEN YOU LEAVE IT! If it appears to be at risk from the elements, comment about this in your log. Enjoy the hunt!
