The Garden Island State Recreation Area is located 19 miles off the coast of Minnesota on Lake of the Woods. A boat is required to reach the island. Charter boats are available.

For those that found the Garden Island History Challenge cache in 2008, an alternate cache for the Garden Island Wildlife Safari has been hidden in Zippel Bay State Park. Please visit Zippel Bay State Park during regular office hours and be prepared to show one of the following:

• Garden Island History Challenge collector card
• Northwest Region History Challenge card or coin
• 72-Park History Challenge card or coin

This cache is part of the Minnesota State Parks Wildlife Safari!

• Search for hidden Critter Caches at each of the 72 Minnesota State Parks
• Collect Critter Cards
• Collect 10, 20, 40, 60 or all critter cards and earn five different award level collector cards.
• Experience your Minnesota State Parks along the way!
