För att kunna bryta den svarta graniten behövde man hitta "gångarna" med stenen, detta kunde vara både tålamodsprövande och mödosamt. Den exakta sträckningen var ju inte känd. Ofta gav ”suggorna” vägledning. ”Suggorna” var flyttblock som inlandsisen skalat bort från diabasgången. Dessa låg alltid öster om gången, ibland till största delen under jord. Genom att stöta med ett speciellt spett och lyssna till ”klangen” kunde man avgöra om det var lönsamt att bryta stenen.

At finde de lag med sort granit kunne være hårdt og tålmodighedskrævende. Ofte blev ’suggorna’ anvendt som vejvisere. ’Suggorna’ er flytteblokke som indlandsisen har skrabet væk fra diabaslaget, og de lå altid øst for granit laget, oftest under jord. Ved at anvende spyd og lytte til lyden kunne man afgøre om granitten skulle brydes..

To find the areas with black granite was difficult and could be a real trial of one’s patience. The exact direction was not known. However, suggorna served as guidance. They were erratic blocks that the inland ice had taken away from the diabase areas. These were always located east of the areas, mostly underground. By thrusting with a special pointed lever you could hear the sound that revealed whether it was profitable to quarry.
