Geocache Description:

This is a day-time only cache.

You will be able to see the barns of a modern dairy operation. One of the amazing features of the barn housing the milk cows is that the north and south walls are called "Turkey Curtains". These walls are controlled by thermostats throughout the barn, and raise or lower in an attempt to keep the cows comfortable year-round. Dairy cows produce better when temperatures are cooler. Should you be able to see the cows, either through the walls or in the pasture, they are pure-bred Holsteins. These animals have their first calf when they are about two years old, at which time they enter the milking line. Here they will be milked twice a day for ten months, at which time they then go on "holiday" until they have another calf, about two months later. All the animals on this farm are bred artificially, and there is no mature bull on the grounds. The milk is picked up every other day in a large tanker truck and taken to the processing plant. The first time most of the milk is exposed to air is when you open it at home.
