Geocache Description:

The mathman continues his History Mystery Tour of Jefferson County! The coordinates listed will not lead you to the cache. It will however, give you information that will get you there.

Jefferson County has a rich historical heritage. Names such as, Jefferson, Washington, John Brown, Robert E. Lee, J.E.B. Stuart, Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson, Israel Green and John Wilkes Booth have all played a part in the history of Jefferson County.

Jefferson County is the location of the oldest settlement in West Virginia: Mecklenburg (now called Sheperdstown). It is the home of where some (including Major Dad) believe the Civil War actually began: Harpers Ferry. It is also the location of the first rural delivery mail route in the United States: Charles Town. (I thank Major Dad for this history lesson!)

Jefferson County is also the only county in West Virginia that is home to the "Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenendoah River" of John Denver's song "Take Me Home, Country Roads."

At the site of these coordinates, you will find a sign giving some historical facts about the Bower. The Bower was the home of General Adam Stephen. The tract of land included a hunting lodge along the Opequon (The locals here will tell you, " Its pronounced O-peck-en, not Op-ee-kwan; its a creek, not a character from Star Wars). The current mansion on this site was built by the original owners grandson, Adam Stephen Dandridge.

The Dandridge Mansion on The Bower

After the Battle of Anteitam in October of 1862, the Dandridge House hosted J.E.B. Stuart and his staff for several days. It was at this time that Stuart held a ball at the Bower in celebration of his success in Pennsylvania and Maryland.

At the listed coordinates, you will find a sign with five numbers (four of them are years and one has to do with distance). Using the sign, plug in the numbers to the coordinates below:
North 39 degrees CC.AMB
West 077 degrees DF.EGH

C = The last number in the second year.
A = The third number in the last year.
M = The first number in the first year.
B = The last number of the second year times the first number of the last year.
D = The third number of the third year.
F = The second number of the second year.
E = MC2 (Again, it is a requirement of the mathman to add math to his history lessons
G = The second number of the third year minus The first number of the last year.
H = The number of miles mentioned on the sign.

You will have to drive to the cache as it is several miles to the west of the sign. You are looking for a small tupperware container. I have placed two TBs inside. There may be fishermen around. If there are, please use stealth.

Congratulations to Gr8Caches for the FTF!!!!
