Typical ammo can with the usual log and cache note
There were once 3 two story homes on this road, all owned by members of the Mooney family. Jim, Bob and Alice.
The first house on this site was just north, on the other side of the driveway. You can still see the depression that remains of the dug-out that once existed there. The old rock lined, hand dug well is still here, covered with an iron wheel. Please do not go near it as it is inhabited by snakes. I killed 21 of them there one afternoon.
The next temporary home was a limestone house once located 1/2 mile due east. They lived there until approximately 1904 when the existing home (now ours) was constructed.
All the lumber came from Kinsley in large freight wagons drawn by horses. While Spearville is the closest rail point, Kinsley was favored by settlers because of it's larger size and better stores. Prices in Dodge City were considered prohibitive.
In it's day, this was considered one of the most modern homes in the area, having both running water and electricity.
