Geocache Description:

This cache is NOT at the posted coordinates! This is a NIGHT CACHE that begins at the trailhead coordinates (N 42° 14.014 W 079° 34.226.) YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SEE THE START OF THE MARKER TRAIL FROM THE PARKING AREA (N 42° 13.989 W 079° 34.225.) BE ADVISED that from the parking area there are some visible colored reflectors that mark the entrance to the Chautauqua County Rails to Trails, although you might want to come hear before dark to find the caches that are located there, THESE ARE NOT THE MARKERS YOU SEEK. In fact the cache you seek is NOT located on the Rails To Trails. In order to find the trailhead YOU MUST USE YOUR GPS TO GO TO THE POSTED COORDINATES. Standing at said coordinates facing west, search in the trees to find a small white reflective eye. This is the starting point of you quest.

This trail passes through the Chautauqua Gorge State Forest, thus the name. For obvious safety concerns, at no time while seeking this cache will you be anywhere near the gorge.

Once you have found the trailhead, follow the eyes on trees that will take you to your search area. Doubled eyes mean a change of direction (but almost never a complete turn around - those eyes behind you are meant to lead you out.) When you see a cluster of eyes, it means you are in the cache area. This area is no more than 20 feet from the tree thus marked.

Nothing is quite so dark as the woods at night. Walk with care. This cache hunt should be done with appropriate shoes. No flip-flops or sandals! Nighttime cache hunts are by their nature slower and more watchful hunts than daytime ones. Please hike carefully and be mindful of obstacles that in the daytime would be easily identified: logs, stones, dead branches (including those at or near eye level) and uneven terrain.

All night caches share the same equipment requirement: a good flashlight with fresh batteries and maybe some to spare in your pocket is recommended. Holding the flashlight at eye level so that you get the maximum “back flash” from the reflectors is the best technique – most fire-tacks and reflectors are made to directly reflect light. If you hold your flashlight too low, you will not benefit from the reflection coming back at you, or the tacks will appear dim.

Now for a few things I recommend.?1) MARK A WAYPOINT FOR THE PARKING AREA.?2) TAKE A FRIEND OR LET SOMEONE KNOW?3) TAKE A EXTRA LIGHT AND BATTERIES.?4) TAKE A CELLPHONE AND FIRST AID KIT
BE SAFE, HAVE A GREAT TIME AND HAPPY HUNTING.

This cache was designed to be a night cache. Please don’t spoil the fun for yourself by hunting in the daytime. Snow will make this a difficulty of 5 or more - this area really gets dumped on in the winter. Also, being that this cache is on State Land make sure that you check local hunting seasons, (big game hunting comes in mid November to early December.) Hunting is not restricted on this land. This should not be a problem because hunting is only permissible from sunrise to sunset and you will be caching after sunset. Enjoy this beautiful area.

The cache is a 54 OZ/1.6L Lock & Lock plastic storage container containing a log book, Travel Slug Geo Coin, a Ziploc bag filled with small trade items and a MAGlight Solitaire First to Find Prize. Please trade fair!

This cache is approximately 1 mile round trip and will probably take you 45 minutes to complete.
