Geocache Description:

You are looking for a lock-n-lock container (ammo can was taken) located in Black Hawk State Historic Site. You can stay on the main trails to within 20 feet of the cache, and on a smaller trail that goes east to within about 6 feet of the cache. There is poison ivy in the park during the summer.

I won this filled ammo can at Old Timer's picnic and am placing it in honor of him.

This cache is located just off one of the main trails through the park. Please do not try to bushwack a long distance to the cache. The cache is not located in poison ivy, but it grows along the trails. You will not want to wear shorts or sandals to find this cache, as the weeds lean into the trail and in places are about 4 feet high right now. The weeds are not a problem in the cache area.

Parking is available at N 41° 28.040 W 090° 34.650.

There is a trail starting from the Singing Bird Lodge parking area that goes across the bridge and up the hill, where you can go either straight ahead to take the north trail or turn to the east to take the lower trail to the cache.

I took the lower trail to the cache and the north trail back to my car - they seemed to be about equal length and difficulty. Even with the heavy rain we had yesterday, the trail was passable and just a little muddy in a couple of spots (my feet didn't sink in the mud), and although the trail was wet, it wasn't slippery. In one place on the north trail, the weeds had fallen over the trail, so for about 10 feet it was hard to see the trail. It is there and becomes visible again quickly.

If you take the north trail, when you are about 150 yeards from the cache, take the trail that turns off to go south and down the hill (if you get the the fork in the north trail, you have missed the turnoff by about 20 feet or so).

If you take the lower trail, stay on the main trail until you come to a fork - take the left fork.

It's hard to get good coordinates, and at times you may lose your signal. Stay on the main trail. The cache is located between the bridge to the south downhill and the bench to the north uphill.

Cache contains lots of swag, $5 for FTF, and a TB.

Enjoy another cache in this great park!

***Congratulations to Joker3300 for FTF!***
