This is a micro located near the Charlestown School Farm Monument and is not accessible from Rt101. This is actually a marker, in a better location for the actual marker/location itself.
Park near the grocery store.
The marker reads:
“On the river bank 209 feet north stands the stone which marked the N.W. Corners of Charlestown School Farm 1659 and of the towns of Old Dunstable 1673 – 1746 and the N.E corner of Groton Gore 1735 – 1746 and the eastern boundary of Dram Cup Hill and Mile Slip Milford H&G Society 1895”
The marker to the north is on the other side of Rt101. If you want to visit the marker, I suggest that you park at the gas station to the north west across Rt101. A more scenic parking spot would be the other side of the river on North River Road at the Green Bridge. Walk across the bridge then east along Rt101.
Now for some history of Charlestown School Farm:
In 1659 the General Court of Massachusetts granted the Town of Charlestown a tract of land of 1000 acres known as the Charlestown School Farm to be sold by them as a way of earning much needed money for their schools.
Jonathan Danforth was the surveyor entrusted with the duty of locating that grant. He was a noted surveyor of the time. History has it that he was the first white man to look upon this spot.
This location was and is considered prime farm land. It's hard to imagine what it must have looked like back in 1659.
Not much activities in this area but as always, use stealth when searching.
Bring a pencil.
FTF goes to shadrach,
Second to nhgoldens,
and third to Bill the Cat 89
