Geocache Description:

Sponsored by Iowa DNR and staff at Lake Wapello

The Iowa DNR and staff at Lake Wapello, the Wapello County and Surrounding Area Geocaching Organization, AKA WACkOSAGO would like to invite you to Lake Wapello for a day of non-competitive caching and friendship.

The posted coordinates will lead you to the restaurant where you will register and have the caches loaded to your GPS. Please bring your cables. Registration will make you eligible for prize drawings later in the day. This building is handicap accessible and will be open all day as an event headquarters and the only meal available will be lunch.

8:30am Registration & cache loading

11:30am - 1:00pm Lunch at the restaurant

3:30pm Prize drawings at the restaurant
Prizes are for anyone 12 and up.

Lake Wapello features 80 campsites, 42 with electricity and 14 cabins. Both cabins and campsites may be reserved by going to (visit link)

Update 8/25/09. There are no cabins left.
The lake is being drained again due to a species of fish that has been introduced.

The closest motel is Southfork in Bloomfield at the junction of US 63 and Ia 2. The price range is $59-85. 800-926-2860 (visit link)

The new 2nd Annual Southeast Iowa October Cache Fest Geo-Coins will be available for $10

The temporary cache count now stands at 119, a logger cache, and 30 permanent caches, of which 18 are new, available in this park and at Pioneer Ridge County Park. We will have FTF pins in several of the caches that are big enough to hold them. There are 140+ caches in the Ottumwa / Wapello County area. We will also have a kids "Treasure Trail" this year. We are also planning 1 or 2 night caches. Check back later for cache totals.

Some of the caches at Pioneer Ridge are in a public hunting area. Please wear something Blaze Orange for your safety.
