Overlooking Porth Chapel, one of Penwith's less well-known beaches. Total coastal path walking time, from parking near St Levan church (there and back) about 40 minutes, plus searching time. The path is easy, the last 30ft to the search area is a scramble over granite. Cache is 6" x 5" x 2" clip-lock.
A pleasant walk from St Levan church to St Levan's holy well near Porth Chapel beach.
The sixth century Saint Seleven built his first chapel at the site of the present St Levan church but he also built a small chapel baptistry near the cliff edge where a flight of stone steps lead upwards to the holy well. The water from this well is still used for baptisms at the parish church but (hopefully) it's well sieved first. This whole area is where Mrs Blorenge grew up and there used to be newts living in the holy well. We had a look for them when we placed this cache in mid June but only found some rather plump tadpoles in residence. If you see any newts please mention them in your log. The cache is placed at a great viewpoint not far away.
