Kilnhurst Colliery Remembered Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not responded to my note I am archiving it.

Guidelines:**You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing.**

Geocache Description:

An easy cache in the village of Kilnhurst in the grounds of St Thomas' Church.

The first colliery in Kilnhurst opened in 1858 and was the major source of employment in the village until its closure in 1989. The then vicar of Kilnhurst asked British Coal if the redundant pit wheel could be brought to the churchyard and put up as a lasting memorial to the generations of miners who worked here over the past 150 years.

This is an easy find on your visit to the memorial pit wheel.

Original contents in small clip top container: log book and pencil, FTF badge and certificate, stash including toy car and finger puppet.

Parking available outside churchyard on Highthorn Road. Please take care as the road can sometimes be quite busy.
