Na Cidade Velha podemos encontrar a
mais antiga igreja colonial do mundo. Trata-se da Igreja de Nossa
Senhora do Rosário e foi construída em 1495, no estilo manuelino
(gótico português).
Também a Rua Banana, que conduz à
igreja, foi a primeira rua de urbanização portuguesa nos
trópicos.
Em 1512 foi erguido o primeiro
pelourinho na ilha. É o símbolo da Justiça Real e lugar de
execução. É de estilo gótico e foi feito de mármore branco. Como no
passado continua a ser o centro da vila.
A Sé Catedral da cidade começou a
ser construída em 1556 e terminou em 1700, quando a cidade já tinha
perdido muito de sua importância. Em 1712 foi atacada e totalmente
danificada por piratas, tendo ficado em ruínas.
O Forte Real de São Filipe, que
domina a cidade do alto de 120 metros de altitude, foi começado a
construir em 1587, durante o reinado de Filipe II de Espanha (1º de
Portugal) para defender a colónia portuguesa dos ataques dos
piratas franceses e ingleses. A construção já corresponde ao tipo
de fortaleza renascentista. É considerado um símbolo da identidade
histórica de CaboVerde.
No dia 10/Jun/2009, a cidade velha
de Santiago foi escolhida como uma das sete maravilhas de origem
portuguesas no Mundo.
Este local pertencerá sempre à
história dos Cabo-Verdianos mas também à dos Portugueses.
A Cidade Velha é assim uma cidade
incontornável da nossa pátria comum, a língua portuguesa.
Para fazer esta cache tem de
visitar a Sé (1º), a Igreja de NS do Rosário (2º) e termina
próximo da Fortaleza.

Sé procure a entrada lateral voltada a sul. Recolha o nº da
campa da Donna Anna da Luz Barrádas, ocultado

Igreja da Nossa Senhora do Rosário, ao fundo da Rua Banana.

In Cidade Velha we can see the
oldest colonial church in the world. That’s the church Our Lady of
Rosario and was built in 1495 (more than 500 years ago), in
Manuelino style (Portuguese Gothic).
The Banana Street is also the
oldest European street in the tropics.
In 1512 was built the first
Pelourinho of Cape Verde. It is the symbol of royal Justice and was
a place of execution. It has a gothic style and is made of white
marble. The square is still central to local life, as it was when
the slave market used to take place here.
The beginning of construction of
the Cathedral of Cape Verde dates back to 1556, and it was
completed in about 1700. A short time later, in 1712, it was
attacked by Cassard who left it almost destroyed.
The Royal Fortress was constructed
during the reign of Phillip II of Spain (Phillip I of Portugal) in
1587 due to the violent attacks of British and French pirates. This
construction resembles a fortress of the Renaissance period, and is
a symbol of historical identity of Cape Verde.
In 10/Jun/2009, the Cidade Velha de
Santiago was chosen as one of the seven wonders of Portuguese
origin in the World.
This place will always belong to
the history of Cape Verde but also to the Portuguese history. The
Cidade Velha is thus a remarkable place of our common native land,
the Portuguese language.
To found this cache you have to
visit the Cathedral (1st), the Church of Our Lady of Rosário (2nd)
and finish near of the Fortress.
