Please Note - I have not been actively geocaching since 2009, so if/when this cache goes out of maintenance I will retire it. Actually, I am surprise it has lasted this long, entirely at the good graces of conscientious geocachers who have done maintenance on my behalf. You know who you are & I thank you! :-)
Lighthouses were once used to mark dangerous coastlines, hazardous reefs, safe entries to harbors, and to assist in navigation. By the end of the 19th century the U.S. had the most lighthouses of any nation. Unfortunately, as lighthouses become less essential to navigation many of them face demolition or neglect. The National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act was passed in 2000 to provide for the transfer of lighthouses to local governments and non-profits so they can be maintained or restored. Luckily, some lighthouses are already popular travel destinations and tourist attractions, like the ones in St. Augustine and Key West. There are about 30 historic lighthouses left in Florida, including one in Brevard County in Cape Canaveral. Waterway Estates is home to our local lighthouse (replica) here in Satellite Beach.
You are looking for a camo’d magnetic key container with a log only, no room for swag, bring your own pen. This is a quick park & grab, not near any vegetation.
* BE(E) ALERT * The bees seem to have built a condo nearby. If you leave them alone they will more than likely reciprocate, but if you are allergic ... proceed at your own risk and with epi-pen in hand!
