Tregarva
This small community north west of Regina was established in 1882 and it’s name meaning and origin is up for debate. Some say it is the Indian word meaning barren of trees; others claim that comes from a small town in Wales; some state that it is Irish in origin and still others think the name was bestowed upon it by the federal government, but what ever the name the community origin is there is very little left of this once prosperous settlement. Gone are most of the families that once lived here, as well as the Post office, a store, hotel, lumberyard, blacksmith, a CO-OP store, a Massey-Harris implement agency and three elevators (last of which disappeared in November 1999).
As small as Tregarva is now there is still a hopeful future that as Regina grows it yet may become a suburb and the community again come back as place as it once was to raise a family.
Till then look where an elevator once stood as there is now a cache for those to enjoy.
