Cape Breton Highlands National Park - Parc national du Canada des Hautes-Terres-du-Cap-Breton

Welcome to Cape Breton Highlands National Park!

This cache is placed on the Acadian trail - 8.4 km (loop).

Trail is smooth in some parts but has fist size rocks and roots in several places, trail on the right leads through a steep valley, satelite reception is poor but returns when you reach the summit of the trail.

Recomended route to the cache is to keep to the left trail and then follow the other trail on the return. Not recommended for small children.

You are looking for a small lexan container containing a log book and pencil.

Please pay appropriate park entry fees and collect your Cacheport at the Ingonish or Chéticamp Visitor Centre. Stay on trails.

As per the Parks Canada geocaching policy: Trade items are not permitted in caches, this includes Travel Bugs.

Cette cache est située sur le sentier L'Acadien - 8,4 km (boucle).
Le sentier est en bonne condition avec quelques roches et racines. Le sentier à droite monte une vallée escarpée où le réseau est faible, mais revient au sommet. Chemin suggéré pour accéder la cache est celui à gauche en montant. Cette cache n'est pas sugérée pour les jeunes enfants.
Vous cherchez un contenant vert de lexan et carnet.

N’oubliez pas de payer les droits d’entrée du parc au centre d’accueil de Chéticamp ou à celui d’Ingonish. Suivez les sentiers.

If you ask any moose, they’ll tell you that Cape Breton Highlands National Park is a moose’s paradise. With few natural predators and hectares of protected forests, moose thrived here after their reintroduction in the
late 1940s.

“Yeah, we pretty much got it made here,” said one moose in 2010, “all the trees you could ever wish to eat; free to roam about without fear of being hunted, what more could a moose ask for?”

Moose were extirpated from Cape Breton by the early 20th century but were reintroduced from Elk Island National Park in Alberta and their numbers rose from 18 to about 3000 in the highlands in just 60 years, though their numbers are lower today.

Comme il y a peu de prédateurs et des hectares de forêts protégées,la population d’orignaux n’a fait que croître après la réintroduction de l’espèce à la fin des années 1940.

« Oui, c’est la belle vie ici, de dire un original en 2010. Des arbres à brouter en quantité; nous sommes libres d’aller où bon nous semble sans craindre les chasseurs. Quoi de mieux ? »

L’orignal avait disparu du Cap-Breton au début du 20e siècle, mais des orignaux ont été apportés du parc national Elk Island, en Alberta, et l’espèce a ainsi été réintroduite. Leur nombre n’a fait que croître dans les hautes-terres, même s'il y en a moins aujourd'hui, passant de 18 à environ 3000 en seulement 60 ans.
