Geocache Description:

The George Washington Mural is complete! A simple multi-cache to do while enjoying Alexandria's newest art project.

The George Washington mural is painted on over 1200 feet of fence adjacent to the GW bike path. Going from south to north it portrays the life and legacy of George Washington and contains many scenes of colonial Alexandria.

You will access this by the Mount Vernon bike/hike path. Quickest route in is from the south, but take your pick.

The listed coordinates will take you to a postcard. I am pretty sure that its too big for someone to take. If anyone knows who the people are that wrote it, you get bonus points, because we hain't a clue.

But let's use the postcard to solve the longitude of the final cache location: add up the digits in the zip code of the address, then subtract the postage amount. Multiply the result by 2 and subtract this from the longitude listed to find the longitude of the final cache.

Now proceed to the following location:

N 38-49.078
W 077-02.348

You should be in front of a colonial encampment. Count the number of tents (just the A-frames--don't include the tarp in the middle). Multiply the result by 5, subtract 1 from that product, and add this number to the current latitude (NOT the latitude listed at the top) to get the latitude of the final cache.

The cache is nearby. You are looking for a camo'd quart-size lock-n-lock container. Please take care to cover it up nicely when you are done, keeping in mind people from over the fence can also see the site (as well as people below on the walkway).

Oh, and the cache is chock full o' kids swag. Bring the tots and have them bring an old Happy Meal toy to trade for a matchbox car or a bouncy ball.
