WELCOME TO LANDSTROM
RIDGE
Please make sure that you read the
cache page thoroughly before beginning this hike so that you can
plan things out in advance.
The loop trail that you will be hiking provides access to a
series of rock bluff viewpoints above Hope and the Fraser River.
The hike is around 3km in distance and should take you around 2
hours to complete.
The trail is all uphill (and relatively steep) from the loop
junction waypoint to the Northeast Viewpoint cache. From there, it
is fairly flat with only small elevation changes until the Kumgo
Lake cache. After that, it is downhill the rest of the way. Please
take these factors into account when deciding if you want to do the
hike.
Be aware that parts of the trail are VERY overgrown and can be
hard to see. Personally, I had no issues following the trail as-is,
but if you do have difficulties, the trail is flagged with green
and red/pink flagging tape the entire way. If in doubt, look for
the flagging tape!
Being a loop trail, you can choose which direction you want to
take. The preferred direction is clockwise, meaning that you take a
left at the loop junction waypoint. The order in which you find the
caches this way is Northeast Viewpoint first,
South Viewpoint second, Kumgo
Lake third and last but not least, Rock
Ruins. Don't forget to visit the southwest viewpoint....
there isn't a cache there, but the views are still amazing!
Last, but not least, you really should bring some
STRONG bug spray in the spring/summer. The
mosquitoes in this area are bloodthirsty and there aren't just a
couple... you have been warned!
For more information on Landstrom Ridge and to learn of some of
its recent history, I highly recommend reading the write up located
at ClubTread.com.
PARKING
Please be aware that the entire weigh scale complex is a designated
NO PARKING area. The only
time that parking is permitted is if permission is granted to you
directly from a weigh scale employee. If the weigh scale is closed,
DO NOT PARK THERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE.
Additionally, both sides of Hwy. 7 near the weigh scale are also
a designated NO PARKING
area. Nobody is allowed to park here under any circumstance.
I have provided two alternate LEGAL parking
areas that can be used at any time. If in doubt, you will need to
use one of these areas. The preferable parking area is Option #1.
Option #2 is quite a distance away.
ENJOY THE HIKE AND CACHE
ON!
Congrats to Cyclepath Cacher on being
