Two of our favourite hobbies are geocaching and walking, but we don’t often get the chance to combine the two as well as we would like; we have cached in countries that have a tradition of placing lots of caches along circular routes and have always enjoyed ourselves immensely when completing these walks so thought we’d try the same thing here in Cyprus for your enjoyment. With luck, you’ll be inspired to do the same with walks that you know and love, and then we can all benefit from each others local knowledge.
Pissouri Cliffs is a series of 12 caches placed along a 9km walk that will lead you from the village of Pissouri to some spectacular cliffs. There are stunning inland and coastal views, several ruins, a little church, a goat farm or two, and enough caches spaced along the way to retain your interest – we hope you enjoy this series and that it will become the first of many, set by both us and other interested cachers.
The paths are varied. At the time of placing all are dry and the undergrowth has died back, but you will have to watch your step when investigating some of the ruined buildings. Please also be aware that the cliff tops can be windy and that you should not allow children or animals to venture too close to the edge on such days. There’s a few inclines but nothing requiring crampons, and shady trees can be found at sensible intervals along the walk.
None of the hides are tricky as the idea is to enjoy the walk and the scenery, and most of the caches consist of 60ml watertight screw top containers (larger than a film canister so suitable for smaller travel bugs and geocoins) – be sure to bring a pen.
Park at N34 40.168 E032 41.907, take plenty of water, and away you go!
