The Center:
The Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Center is owned and operated by the City of Baytown. This innovative facility, located on the banks of Goose Creek, opened in January of 1998 and is an official site on the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail.
The Wetlands Center encompasses 14,000 square feet and serves several functions, in addition to providing office space for staffers. Facilities include a Science Lab, a Computer Lab, a meeting room that can accomodate up to 100 people, plus the 9,000 square foot Robert M. Craig Exhibit Hall.
The Wetlands Center features a variety of exhibits. Gator World, with its juvenile alligators and large wetlands mural, is always a favorite with visitors young and old. Wetlands Center staff provide tours as time permits, or visitors can take a self-guided tour.
Through education and recreation, the Wetlands Center aims to increase awareness, appreciation and understanding of wetlands, the environment and cultural history.
The Cache:
The cache is in the shrubbery, just outside the building. There is no need to rummage around deep in the flowerbeds, it can be reached from just off the concrete. Once you've found the cache and signed the log, please go inside and take the time to look around and tour the facility.
