Naturreservatet Balesudden är en dramatiskt formad udde som
ligger strax utanför Örnsköldsvik. The Nature
Reserve Balesudden is a spectacular point not far from
Örnsköldsvik.
Udden brandhärjades i juni 2008. Nu finns förkolnade
stammar och sot och aska där det förr var tallar och
mossa men utsikten är fortfarande lika vacker som
alltid.
För att nå cachen från land kan man gå
från Köpmanholmen eller Sandlågan. Med båt
eller kajak kan man lägga till i en vacker skyddad vik
på uddens västra sida, inte långt från
Balestjärn. Ute på udden är kusten stenig och
karg.
Oavsett om man närmar sig cachen från till fots eller
med båt väntar en utmanande klättring.
Utrustning behövs ej, men det kan ta tid att hitta en
säker väg till cachen. Området har en stor
mängd döda träd som kan ligga ostabilt, och hettan
från elden har gjort berget skört. Denna cache bör
ej tas av den som är höjdrädd eller om klippan
är hal och våt. Cachen ligger väl synlig i en
grotta. GPS koordinaterna leder till den västra
öppningen.

The area was burnt in June 2008. Now the pine and moss is gone,
there are ashes on the ground and the trees are carbonized. The
wiev however, is as great as ever. It is possible to reach the
cache by foot from Sandlågan or from Köpmanholmen. If
you go by boat or kayak there is a beautiful protected beach on the
west side of Balesudden not far from Lake Balestjärn. At the
point the coastline is harsh. Regardless of coming by foot or by
sea the climb is challenging. There is no need for equipment but
there are many unstable dead trees and the heat from the fire has
made the rock brittle. This cache should not be attempted if you
are afraid of heights if it is windy or if the rock is wet and
slippery. The cache is in a cave easy to spot, and the coordinates
lead to the western entrance.
