The Leith Saddle track has just undergone an extensive upgrade. The
old boardwalk has entirely disappeared, and parts of the track have
been rerouted. A Base layer of mud cloth supports a quarry metal
layer which has been topped with a thick layer of fat gravel which
has been compacted to provide a firm stable surface.
The first 10 minutes of walking is up a steady slope, and when the
track suddenly levels out, a seat is provided for a very welcome
chance to take the weight off your feet, sip the water bottle and
get your breathing under control. It is also a chance for
geocaching. The 1 litre container is located at ground level. An
opening tool is available nearby (within 0.5m) of cache location.
