Geocache Description:


 English The park-monument of the bulgarian-soviet friendship is the biggest monument in Varna. It is situated on top of Turna Tepe knoll, some 110 meters above sea level.
During the autumn of 1973 through a competition a new monument project by architect Kamen Goranov and sculptors Evgeni Baramov and Aliosha Kafedzhiiski was approved. The construction work started in April 1978. During the next 7 months more than 27000 people contributed with their voluntary work. More than 10000 tonnes of concrete and 1000 of steel were used for the construction of the monument. It is 23 meters in height and 48 meters in width. The two wings are hollow and designed as two halls. At the base of the monument there are few other rooms on several levels under ground designed to serve as bomb shelters. On the hill more than 10000 trees and 11440 bushes were planted. A staircase with 301 steps leads from the base of the hill to its top (you can count them on your way up if you wish), the so-called "Staircase of victories".
On 13 November 1978 the park-monument was open to the public. It functioned until the collapse of communism in November 1989.
Now neglected, stolen and littered but still standing tall it provides magnificent views towards the city and the sea.

Varna is also proud to become the city in Europe that hosts the biggest flags on the highest pylons. On 25 June 2009 the Bulgarian and the European Union flags (dimensions: 21,5 by 13 meters) were raised on the two pylons (52,6 meters high) erected at the base of Turna Tepe.

 Български Парк-паметникът на българо-съветската дружба е най-големия паметник във Варна. Намира се на върха на могилата Турна тепе на 110 метра надморска височина.
През есента на 1973, чрез конкурс проектът за паметник на архитект Камен Горанов и скулпторите Альоша Кафеджийски и Евгени Баръмов бива одобрен. Строителството започнало през април 1978. През следващите 7 месеца повече от 27000 души са допринесли с доброволния си труд. За направата на монумента са излети 10 000 тона бетон, употребени са 1000 тона арматурно желязо. Общата му височина е 23 метра, а ширината му е 48 метра. Двете крила са кухи, а в тях са оформени две зали. В основата на монумента били разположени няколко зали на няколко етажи под земята предназначени за бомбоубежище. На площта на хълма са били насадени повече от 10 000 дръвчета и 11 440 храста. От основата му към неговия връх води стълба с 301 стъпала (може да ги преброите докато се изкачвате), така наречената Стълба на победите.
Паркът-паметник бил тържествено открит на 13 ноември 1978 г. Функционирал е до падането на комунизма през ноември 1989.
Сега е занемарен, окраден и пълен с боклуци, но все така предлага великолепна гледка към града и морето.

Отскоро Варна е градът с най-големите знамена в Европа. На 25 юни 2009 в основата на Турна тепе са издигнати флаговете на България и на Европейския съюз (размери 21.5х13 метра) на два пилона (52.6 метра високи).
