Geocache Description:

Nil Desperandum, a pise (rammed earth structure) was built in 1892 by George Green and George Hatcliff. The four-roomed residence alongside Hurdle Creek, was first occupied by Irish grazier and satirical poet Henry French Gillman.

Nil Desperandum was later occupied by George Greens daughter Elsie Jane and her husband Eric Blewitt from the early 1930's to the early 1950's, when Eric was killed drenching a horse. In 1943 a Eucalypt Distillery was set up nearby by three Czechoslovakians.

The building was severely damaged during the Canberra bushfires in 2003 but has been fully restored.
