Our family thought it would be great to explore the Newman Lake area. We each chose different areas to place a cache and give some history on the nearby area (the cache may not be located exactly as the history states but is close to the original location). Please enjoy the series: remember to bring a writing utensil, there is no room for geo swag, and as always feel free to CITO.
Congratulations to LLCOOL for FTF !
NEWMAN LAKE HISTORY TOUR 42 - WENDLER FRUIT FARM
Henry Wendler (1836) led an adventurous life before settling down in 1887 on 280 acres at the foot of Newman Lake. With his wife Sarah they planted fruit trees, berry bushes, and every year a big a garden. They would take the produce to Post Falls, Idaho or the Fruit Fair to sell or customers would come to the farm and buy the fresh produce (what wasn’t bought was canned).

In 1906 Henry and Sarah sold the farm all except 40 acres to his sons, Charles and George and moved to Cheney. His sons continued to run the farm, which was about 300 acres of mainly planted oats.
