Geocache Description:

The small community of Irma deserves a cache...or two; so...

You will be looking for a small camo wrapped container sheltered by a slab of Irma Hill Sandstone. It contains a Log and a pencil. Parking is on the roadside of County Highway "J", so please be careful.

It is extremely rare to find an outcrop of sedimentary rock in Lincoln county. Most of Lincoln county's landscape has been formed by the advance and retreat of several continental Glaciers. The Irma Hill Sandstone is the only exposure of sedimentary rock in the county that I am aware of.

The sand for this formation was deposited in the Cambrian period of geological time (approx. 500 million years ago) when this area was an ancient sea. This is confirmed by the presence of ripple marks on some of the rock surfaces scattered on this hillside.

After you find this cach, I hope you have the time to continue east on Co. "J" a short distance to the crest of the hill. From this vantage point you can view practically all of NE Lincoln county. On a clear day this can be a spectacular sight.

Congratulations to Van's Clan for the FTF
