Geocache Description:

Mt Adrah near Adelong is one of the areas where the first settlers to the region purchased farming land for the future.A plaque now marks the spot where Thomas Crain selected his first block of land and was granted the deed of title to 100 acres on March 1 st 1866.

Thomas Crain and his wife Matilda and their seven children had spent an epic 93 days at sea in 1863 travelling from Ireland to Sydney on the large sailing ship " Lobelia " after paying a bounty of 33 pounds for the family.

Thomas and his family just made it out of Ireland with the IRA in hot pursuit.Records found in a potato field in Northern Ireland in 1862 found that the three eldest sons were at the top of the IRA list.

The Crain family moved to the Adelong region and the next few years the Crain family increased their land holdings and cleared the land to sow potatoes,a staple part of their diet, along with salted down wallaby meat.During the 1880's ,Thomas's son Irvine purchased the Mt Adrah pub and the Crain family owned and lived on much of the entire Mt Adrah region.
The cache is a 200ml sistema containing a log book and pencil within a zip-lock bag together with many swaps.
