The Event: Sunday July 19th, 2009 - 1300 Hours - A new
stash of pirate loot has been discovered near
Treasure Lake... Join us as we bid farewell
to Captain Kidd as he sets sail into the mysterious land of the
"Arrrrrrchived Cache" and spend the morning taking part in the
treasure hunt to find it's replacement! Afterward, swing by the
good ship Adventure in the afternoon and parrrrrrrtake of some
pirate picnic vittles. We'll provide the salt-pork, grog, lemons
& hard-tack, you BYOB and anything special ye might be
needin'. We'll have games, fun & prizes o' course.
Landlubbin', privateerin'' & swashbucklin' is encouraged,
but no scallywaggin' or keelhaulin'. This is a family friendly
pirate parrrrrrty!
The Treasure Hunt (Optional): At least 5 new caches will
provide a siren song to tempt you. The clues contained therein will
lead you to the new treasure stash located near the event. The
caches will be along the coast from Laurence Harbor to Cliffwood
Beach. There's plenty of parking near the Northernmost cache and a
very nice 2.5 mile walk (or bike ride!) along the boardwalk, paved
trails & beach through four parks, across two streams and
spanning two counties. If you didn't want to make a round trip of
it I'm sure return ferry guest carpool service can be arranged
following the event.
About the original cache: Hidden on the anniversary of
his "death", "Captain Kidd's Treasure" was the search for the
legendary buried gold of Captain William Kidd. Find "Kidd's
Rangers", calculate the midpoint then find the clue that Kidd's
first mate left and you'll find the cache pacing out 30 steps from
the end of the cross. The cache was filled with actual treasure.
Coins, costume jewelry, home-made trinkets & a smaller hand
sanded & stained "treasure box" holding metal coins, geocoins,
TBs and the actual log book. A lot of thought, research, planning
& "treasure" hoarding went into the creation of the cache but
it's time to say goodbye. The final location has been compromised
and I certainly can't move the sea-wall around the muggle activity.
So, for ONE DAY ONLY the cache will be replaced and treasure
hunters can once again discover the long lost treasure of Captain
William Kidd!
