A historic walk around Lower and Upper Upnor on roads and footpaths. There are 7 traditional caches of varying sizes nano – regular. A bonus multi cache is also part of the walk.
Parking is available at the end of Lower Upnor Road in a large public car park with toilets nearby.
A map of the area is useful, especially when finding the footpaths.
Length: approx 4 km, approx 2 hrs
Out from the front used to be a large pier (built 1860). This pier was built to moor a paddle steamer and was one of the many boats to take people to and from Upnor.
In the 19th and early 20th century Upnor was a popular riverside venue for many people who lived in the surrounding area. Not only were the pubs and hotels popular but also along the beach there were tearooms and a miniature railway. Small boats would come ashore and sell lemonade. It was a thriving part of the Medway towns.
Now days with 2 pubs to choose from it’s a good place for refreshment on the start or end of this walk.
