Geocache Description:

at unfinished section of greene river trail, located near the bottom of crucible hill, near the location of what was once the old crucible mine.

parking on pull off at bottom of hill, even if gate is closed, one can goaround and get on trail,,or you can walk the entire trail from rices landing trail head to get here. its on an unfinished section, but the more adventrous take this part of trail all the time.. easy find, easy flat walking surface,,named because of the black coal mountians across the river,,every kid thinks the mountians are awesome without relizeing they are mountians of death, representing many lives lost in early mining, and the hazard they pose to the enviriment,,

my father worked in this mine when he was 16 years old,as did his father, and many uncles etc,,back in the days of big coal companys, and company stores, where you got paid by the ton,and no safety laws were in place,,

my grand pa lavins was a past president of a local umwa and helped make many laws to reform the mines and he was killed on a picket line, when a comapny man pushed him into the path of a strike breaker who was driving a coal truck and his head was run over. i never knew him,,and wish i did,,
