This cache is only a couple hundred feet off the main road going through the forest preserve. There will be some very minor bushwacking the last few feet. Take our advice, and during mosquito season pour on the repellent before making the trip down the trail. This one is not intended to be fast, and with the heavy follidge it was difficult to get a good GPS lock so it may be a little harder than we intended. Please replace as found or better.
This cache is named after our family pet painted turtle we caught while fishing in Iowa 15 years ago on the 4th of July. Hence her name Sparky.
Surprisingly Sparky not only survived, she thrived, and got to the point she only wanted to eat out of Spice Girls hand. As the kids got older we noticed she was not getting as much attention anymore. When we learned about the terrific reptile exhibit in the Conservation building we decided to ask if they would like another great turtle to join the three they already had. They did, and it has now been three years of heaven for Sparky, in her new substantially larger digs, that she shares with her buddy's.
If the building is open (DeKalb County Natural Resource Education Center) while you are looking for the cache, please take a few minutes to go in, and see not only Sparky, but the other critter exhibits. It really is a great place for kids and adults alike. We have been told they have around 5000 kids per year going through their educational program. They have small, but extremely well maintained exhibits.
Congratulations to the Randaddy for the FTF.
