Geocache Description:

This is a copy of a tricky cache I used as a demonstration for the 4-Hers during their summer camp in early June. I demonstrated caching to 36 kids.... 8th grade and older. I knew they would either enjoy it or think it was lame.... only a couple seemed bored.... their loss!

In 1934, the Tyler County 4-H Camp and Community Organization was formed. Mr. L.A. Crumrine offered to give them 8 acres of ground for the 4-H Camp. The land was deeded to the County Court to get W.P.A. labor to work on the grounds. Spring 1935, work started on the dining hall to have it completed by "Camp time" in July. Log cabins on each side of the dining hall were completed in the fall of 1935.
The only way to get materials to the camp was across a swinging bridge or ford the Middle Island Creek when the water was low. In 1947, the swinging bridge became unsafe and a pontoon bridge was built. In 1949, the money was approved by the State Legislature to build a bridge. It was completed by January 15, 1951.
In the beginning, the Crumrine family did the cooking at the camp, which they continued to do until after the bridge was built. In 1952, Mr. Crumrine had a cerebral hemmorhage and was unable to work any more at the camp.
Since 1950, three new buildings have been added along with other remodeling.

When placed the cache contained lizard, dice, coin, and marbles.

FTF congratulations go to smithdk. Way to go!
