Geocache Description:

This hiding place leads you at the source of the petrifying waterfall of the tufa. Know appreciate this place by taking the nature trail.

A living biological area that has been active for several thousand years. A veritable natural laboratory turning moss into tufa-stone. A complex, fragile, protected ecosystem. The bicarbonate contained in waters of infiltration is decomposed there: the carbon dioxide is likened by mosses (photosynthesis), what provokes the haste of the dissolved limestone which constitutes then the "tuff". The deposit of the limestone and the growth of mosses form small cushions which rise, building gradually a natural dam. So, the formation of the tuff ends in this characteristic disposal of ponds in terraces.

This site is listed and protected. During your visit, please keep on the footpaths. It is strictly forbidden to cross the fences.
