Geocache Description:

Zuurberg - Doringnek Trail

This portion of the Addo National Park is situated in the Zuurberg section in the Winterhoek Mountains.

A map is available at the Zuurberg office S33° 20.829 E25° 44.275 which is located 16 km from the main park entrance along a gravel road. No bookings are necessary. Daily conservation levies are payable , or use a Wildcard for entrance.

It is a circular route of approx. 13 km and takes 5 hours. It is a moderate walk with beautiful scenery starting at the office and descending into Forest, opening out onto grass (use the Gate and follow the track) close to the Narina Bush Camp, then ascending steeply to grassy fynbos before returning. There is a beautiful spot on the Wit Rivier where one can take a lunch break. ( S33° 20.162 E25° 41.604) . From here proceed along the easterly tributary to S33° 20.102 E25° 41.690 where you will find the trail leading up the hill. There are no trail markings along the route.

Three vegetation types dominate: Grassy Fynbos, Afromontane Forest and Succulent Thicket. A variety of animals are protected.

Carry enough drinking water for the trail as the stream is not always flowing.

The cache is in a 1.2L L&L at the co-ordinates.
DO NOT LEAVE THE PATH AS THE CONTAINER IS HIDDEN UNDER ROCKS ON THE UPPER SIDE OF THE TRAIL.
