Der Bohlen, Saalfeld/ Obernitz
Wegen der Einmaligkeit des Aufschlusses sowie der geowissenschaftlichen Bedeutung des Bohlengebietes, die in über zweihundert Veröffentlichungen des In- und Auslandes ausgewiesen wird, gehört der Bohlen bei Obernitz zu den bedeutendsten geologischen Denkmalen Mitteleuropas. 1938 wurde der Bohlen als Naturschutzgebiet ausgewiesen. Es ist eines der ältesten Naturschutzgebieten Thüringens.
Der Bohlen ist eine etwa 800 Meter lange und bis 100 Meter hohe Felswand zwischen Saalfeld und Obernitz. Die vorwiegend natürlich entstandene Steilwand wird aus variszisch gefalteten und geschieferten marinen oberdevonischen und unterkarbonischen pelagischen Sedimenten aufgebaut, die diskordant von horizontal gelagerten Zechsteinkalken des Tafelstockwerkes überdeckt werden. Der Aufschluss ist ein einzigartiges Beispiel für die variszische Diskordanz in Mitteleuropa. Die stark gefaltete und tektonisch mehrfach gestörte ca. 150 Meter mächtige Schichtenfolge des Grundgebirges repräsentiert typische Beckensedimente des Devons und Karbons im Saxothuringikum. Ihr Fossilreichtum spiegelt wichtige Etappen der Entwicklung der Geobiosphäre und besonders der marinen Lebewelt wider. Das anzutreffende geologische Inventar belegt wichtige Ereignisse der Erdgeschichte aus einer Zeit von vor 256 bis 380 Millionen Jahren.

Of ways of the uniqueness of the explanation as well as the geoscientific meaning of the plank area which is expelled in more than 200 publications of the home and foreign country belongs of the planks with Obernitz to the most significant geologic monuments of Central Europe. In 1938 it was expelled of the planks as a nature reserve. It is one of the oldest nature reserves of Thuringia.
Of the Bohlen one is about 800 metres long and to 100-metre-high rock wall between Saalfeld and Obernitz. The mainly of course resulted Steilwand is built up from variszisch folded and scaled off marine oberdevonischen and unterkarbonischen to pelagischen sediments which are covered diskordant by horizontally stored Zechsteinkalken of the board floor. The explanation is a unique example of the variszische discordance in Central Europe. The very folded and tectonic several times disturbed approx. 150 metres of mighty layer result of the Grundgebirges represents typical pelvic sediments of Devon and cirque vouchers in the Saxothuringikum. Their fossil wealth reflects important stages of the development of the geobiosphere and especially the marine Lebewelt. The geologic inventory to be found books important events of the history of the earth from a time from before from 256 to 380 million years.
