Sunny Slopes, Heysham.
The cache is at Sunny Slopes, an area of the promenade which has been completely refurbished over the last few years. Close by is a large "fishtail groyne", part of the new sea defences. Also nearby is a jetty and a horizontal climbing wall. To the south-west you will be able to see the headland of Heysham and its sandstone cliffs, with St. Patrick's chapel on top and St Peter's church lower down.
In front of the cache site is a large sandy beach, and great views across Morecambe Bay to the Lake District hills.
The excellent cycling and walking route along the promenade goes from Heysham to near Hest Bank (about 5 miles). There are links to the main Morecambe to Lancaster cycle path and to the Lancaster Canal towpath, all with no traffic to worry about!
The cache can be approached from any of the many nearby roads, but you will have to walk a short distance as cars are not allowed onto the promenade. Alternatively, there are car parks at Morecambe Battery, where there is also a children’s play area and cafe, and also at Heysham village where there are small shops, a heritage centre, café’s and the historic church and chapel, so you can have a longer walk and enjoy the views.
