Welcome to the New Town Point Park! Many, many, many MUGGLES for Harborfest! Muggle traffic all the time. Be extremely sneaky.
This is a cache about Norfolk history, especially Town Point Park. At the turn of the century, the location of Town Point Park, the cruise terminal and Nauticus are located on the old shipping port named Half Moone. In the early 1980's Town Point park was developed. From that date to 2007, the park had deterioted and needed many improvements for power, lighting, water, walkways, etc. as it aged with time. In 2007, the City along with Festevents listed the project for competition of design. The company that provided the original design won the competition for the renovation.
The moderator of the site will not allow the listings of the companies involved with the design of the renovated park. For your self, please visit location coords N36 50.802 and W76 17.682.
In 2008, the project went out to bid to all regional Contractors.
The completion of construction for this project is in time for the Harborfest/Independance Day festival for 2009.
Come visit the park. The lighting is greatly improved, power is ample and water for vendors is provided everywhere. There is now a large stage with plenty of stadium type lawn seating along with the ability to add two more stages for performances. A beautiful water fountain is down by Nauticus and the cruise terminal and is named Karen. An interactive fountain is by Waterside. I am not responsible if your children play in it but that is what it is there for. :o)
