Neahkahnie Summit
This cache is very near the summit of Neahkahnie Mountain. The hike to the cache is one of the most beautiful to be found anywhere and can easily be done in a few hours. The route I prefer starts from Highway 101 at the following coordinates:
N 45 44.900
W 123 57.750
The trailhead is just across the highway and is part of the Oregon Coast Trail. The summit is 1,685 feet and the distance traveled about 2 miles.
As you approach the summit, at a distance of about 67 feet from the cache, you will see a steep trail leading off to the left. There is a much easier approach if you continue straight ahead around the next point and back into thick trees. At a distance of about 270 feet from the cache, watch for a rocky trail leading toward the summit.
