Geocache Description:

Come see how Calumet Dam gets it's name. Follow the trail that surrounds the dam for a relatively easy walk. This should be an easy find due to the new location of the cache, but you can still enjoy the walk.

You are looking for a small cache with just a log. Bring a pen/pencil. Enter the trail at the far end of the new Calumet Lion's Club park. Or from Centennial Heights off Washington Street, or even 6th Street just north of the DNR snowmobile trail.
You'll see some red stamp sand nearby from the first copper stamp mill set up by Calumet & Hecla in the 1870s. They quickly realized the pond was a poor choice and soon established their giant works in Lake Linden. Here's a pic of that early mill: (visit link)
