Windmill Beach Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

SawaSawa: 16:50 on a lovely warm sunny afternoon's local caches maintenance mission.

On arrival at GZ it was clear that considerable upgrading of the area has taken place since my last visit and that the cache location is no longer accessible being now behind a protective fynbos regeneration fence.

So, I decided to archive the cache and place a new one not far away!
Thanks to all for their logs!

Geocache Description:

Windmill Beach

An easily accessible cache on a fine small beach within 100m of a convenient parking spot.

This tranquil white sand beach is sheltered and offers safe bathing. Apparently, it is considered so scenically beautiful it has been ‘discovered’ and is a few times a year used for international film productions. It is not heavily visited by foreign tourists, who tend to flock to the nearby Boulders Beach to swim with the penguins, but is well known by local families and can be quite busy on fine hot days where it is a popular picnic and swimming spot. There is no sign of any windmill or remains of the same.

To reach the cache:

Park at the end of Links Crescent at S34 12.029 E18 27.321, go through the small gate and follow the path down to the beach.

The cache, a camo-taped 35mm film canister, is hidden near the boundary of the golf course above the beach.

Your biggest challenge will be to time your cache search and retrieval to avoid being muggled! Early morning or late evening are likely to be less busy.

***Please also be sure to return the cache carefully to its hiding place and that it is properly concealed using the materials available***

Alternative approaches:

1. Park near Boulders Restaurant at S34 11.901 E18 27.232 and walk SE along the beach path through an overspill part of the penguin colony. If you do this, be sure to observe the Boulders Beach closing times so that you don’t get caught with your car behind a locked barrier in the evening!

2. Park on Cruywagen Rd near Oatlands Rd at S34 12.134 E18 27.277 and make your way SE down the Main Rd to a small access gate to the beach at S34 12.191 E18 27.371. Then head NW along the beach track to Windmill Beach. This path continues to Boulders Beach with its massed ranks of penguins (and the Willis Walk cache!).
