Geocache Description:

Resurrecting one of my Adelaide caches in Sydney

I originally placed this cache in Adelaide where it had a few finds. Unfortunately the original GZ became a problem so I retrieved the special container on a recent trip there and have now placed it here. In the interests of recycling the container still has the contents and logbook from when it was in Adelaide.

The story is fiction, but the scenario is not!

It was the heady days after WW2 had ended. The Richmond Air Base was up and running and supporting various Citizen Air Force patrols based at places like Schofields and Camden.

In 1949, No 38 Squadron was operating out of Schofields - which has now been retired and probably turned into housing. After a training run over the ocean the CAC Wirraway A20-22 was returning to base. It was a dark and stormy night (I always wanted to use that in a story).

Suffering engine trouble approaching home the crew diverted to Richmond. For safety reasons they decided to drop their armament before attempting a landing in the foul conditions. Luckily the north west was a little less populated than it is these days.

The RAAF being the efficient people they are recovered all of the weapons except for one. That remains your prize!

The only clue I can give is that the aircraft was travelling at 200 kmh, at an altitude of 1000m. Course was 261 degrees true at the given location. Due to some freak of nature wind resistance did not affect the trajectory, nor did variation in ground height.

Watch for bumpy ground and wombat holes the last 50m to point of impact.

If you would like to see the original Adelaide cache page for historical purposes the code was GCZ82M.

Due to some problems with the Evince thing I will temporarily remove it and experiment with it before I put it back.
