The tacks for Bump in the Night are spaced between 10 and 30m apart and are between 1.5-2m high. From the trailhead waypoint, walk to the end of the trail until reaching a T intersection with another trail. The posted coordinates are for the location of the first set of tacks and cache waypoint.
For best results, hold your flashlight at eye level, as the tacks will reflect light back to the source. The tacks will be nearly impossible to see otherwise. Some trees have 2 tacks in them. Two vertical tacks indicate that a waypoint is attached to the tree, two horizontal indicate a direction change. The final location is indicated by 3 vertically placed tacks. All of the waypoints are PET soda bottle blanks attached to branches about chest height on the same tree as the tacks. The final cache container is a .50 cal ammo can placed on the ground. Overall, this cache should take between 1.5 and 2h to complete from leaving and returning to the trailhead.
Some required and recommended equipment for this hike:
- Flashlight. The more the merrier.
- Waterproof footwear. There are a few holes along the route, as well as a marshy area on the way out filled with water.
- Bug netting. Should be self-explanatory.
- Pants / Long sleeves. It's in the bush, and the bushes will scratch you up. Also see above.
- Hunters orange during hunting season
- Bring a friend! For both safety and entertainment
To get out, return to waypoint 4 and follow the footpath back to the ATV trail.
