NOTE: THIS CACHE IS UP FOR ADOPTION. IF YOU LIKE IT, AND ARE IN THE AREA AND CAN MAINTAIN IT, YOU CAN ADOPT IT. I AM BEING RELOCATED TO ANOTHER COUNTY AND WILL HAVE A HARD TIME MAINTAINING MY OC CACHES SOON. I HATE TO ARCHIVE GOOD CACHES, SO LET ME KNOW. THANKS.
This cache is not for the faint of heart physically. OCShopaholic and I regularly hike to this area from the smaller Corona Del Mar beach (waypoint below) along the coastline and among the rocks, water, sand and tide pools.
Most of the trip involves rock scrambling and may be over wet rocks. You need to make note of the tide times (usually posted at the beach entrance, but also available on line), wear tight fitting tennis shoes you don't mind getting wet, or water shoes. Only takes about a 1/2 hour to 3/4 hour to walk/scramble to the cache. I would suggest going after this one during low tide to make things easier. When I was a kid I used to walk out to a rock here with friends, climb to the top and jump off of it into the water. The cache is not on that same rock, but this rock has a great view of the end where kids today still jump off of the rock. The drop on the jumping rock is approximately 17-20 feet to the water, depending on the tide level. If you have the guts and swim well, take a jump off of this other rock before or after you get the cache! Even better if you can take some pictures and post them that would be great.
I still remember standing at the edge and telling myself in my head "It's not that far...you can do it." And then just standing there scared stiff!
Back to this rock....once you can see the rock you need to approach from the beach and proceed along the left hand side (S or SW side) of this rock. Work your way around to the N or NW side and you will be near the cache.
There are two nearby "Earth Caches" that are on the beach that you can check out while you are here too. Please visit them!
Container is a preform tube with a log and a pencil. Please re-hide well so that the fishermen and kids that frequent this rock don't find it!
CONGRATULATIONS TO CAMSORADAP FOR THE FIRST TO FIND!
