The cache is a small Lock & Lock (not camouflaged) hidden in
plain view on or around “Full Moon Rock”. Even if you don't
have the photo (attached to this page below) you should be able to
recognize full moon rock when you see it. It is easier to notice
when you look downhill at the rock. I am giving this cache a
difficulty 4 because it's hard to get good coordinates close to the
cache.
I suspect it is very difficult to get accurate coordinates close
to the cache site due to the "Full Moon Rock" itself or some other
terrain feature causing interference. I took a number of readings
(first on my way up to the summit of Pikes Peak and then again on
the way down) and averaged these and came up with N 38° 50.702 W
105° 02.028 (my original published coordinates). Vortcity did a
better job getting coordinates by taking a reading directly over
the cache and avoiding the interference. I am now publishing those
as the official coordinates (Thanks, Vort!) The best technique is
to approach GZ to within about 30 feet and then track the rest of
the way in without using the GPS since it will give misleading
readings as you get closer. I am posting a photo of Full Moon Rock
to make finding the cache easier.
As is my standard, the cache is hidden in plain sight but you
have look at just the right angle to see the container. (no camo).
There is no need to touch or move anything to find the
cache.
Please note, there is no need to tread on any vegetation to find
the container. The high-alpine vegetation is very sensitive so
please take care not to tread on it. There is a trail leading
almost directly to the cache.
