Geocache Description:

This cache is dedicated to born-again cacher and former colleague, Weinstein Squire, and is located not too far from his estate.

A little history ...

July 23, 2006 was the fateful day that bob&lynne [now geo-divorcees lynnewill and 8ender] introduced us all to the addictive game of geocaching. It was Weinstein Squire who almost immediately found the very well hidden PLBL (GCX2DP) container with the offhand comment “Is this what we’re supposed to be looking for?”

For reasons known only to him, he then eschewed the sport for nigh onto two years. Then one equally fateful night, while walking in a snowstorm, he .... no, no .... that was someone else. Anyway, the seeds of rot had obviously been well sown, and passion finally fermented in his bosom.

And speaking of fermenting, one of the other passions of the Squire’s life is wine: vintage wines from Bordeaux; new world wines from New Zealand; amazing reds and whites from his own micro-winery - he’s mastered them all.

Master these facts about wine, and the cache shall be yours:

A – is the second digit of the atomic number of the element in the soil structure of the Bordeaux region that is usually cited as influencing its grape characteristics;

B – is one less than the number of words most likely used to state the varietal and country when the term “gooseberry” is used to describe a wine (no – “bloody Brit wine snob” is not correct);

C – is the number of gold medal awards won by Prince Edward County wines at the most recent “Champs Elysees Plonque du Monde” competition in Paris;

D – is the number of currently very common names for a wine varietal that the Aussies used to name after a popular Russian museum.

The cache is located at the midpoint of one of the sides of a True-North-aligned square centered on the posted coordinates (the significance of which need not concern you). The distance from the center of the square to the cache is ABCD meters.

Each of the midpoints of the four sides of this square present a feasible small-cache hiding location, but the kinder-gentler sagelily has convinced me that my plan to move the cache randomly from time to time to each of them is beyond evil, and bordering on contemptuous. Therefore, I’ve contented my sulphurous soul by randomly selecting one of these four possible locations for the permanent location of the cache.

When spawned, the cache contained the usual log, pencil, caching manifesto and a few nautical trinkets totally unrelated to wine, or squires or squares.
