This is a simple conventional cache, near a parking area with good views and nearby walks. The car park is across a cattle grid which could give difficult handicapped access.
.Access to the Red Bank Cache is from the coastal road between Morecambe and Bolton-le-sands. Follow signs for Morecambe Lodge Caravan Park, leading straight to the beach.
The cache is a few metres from a famous long distance footpath,"The Coastal Way",a 137 mile footpath following the coastline between Merseyside and Cumbria. The Coastal Way is of international ornithological interest and comprises a variety of landscapes from the distinctive limestone scenery of Arnside/Silverdale,AONB,,through glazed salt marshes and agricultural land, the seaside resorts of Morecambe and Blackpool and the Fylde coast,as well as the the major river estuaries of the Lune,Wyre, and Ribble.
Bolton-le-sands was a major access point for the crossing of Morecambe Bay,and numerous walking groups led by the Queens Guide Cedric Robinson still make the crossing when the tide is right,a half marathon runs across the bay every August, and the Duke of Edinburgh even took a coach and horses across with Cedric guiding him.
The nearby Red Bank house built in 1865,was originally a girls' boarding school, later becoming a home for waifs and strays, before finally closing in 1919.It is now a private house.
Enjoy the cache,(and an ice cream),but beware,it can be popular on a fine day,so plenty of Muggles, often quieter in the evenings and the chance to see one of the best sunsets in the UK.
