Geocache Description:

Located in Farmer's Park with approval of the park maintenance person.

Over 65 years ago, my local church congregation started having its annual 4th of July picnic in this park. Pleasant Valley Church (PVC) of Winona has missed having the picnic here only about 3 times during that period. One of those times was just summer after the park had been literally wiped out in the August flood the year before. The raging waters of the now quiet flowing creek raced thru the park creating havoc, and carrying debris and picnic tables and playground equipment half way to Stockton, several miles down stream. The nearly 20 inches of rain in a matter of 12 to 14 hours upon the watershed had to flow someplace. The creek bed has been changed, as it used to flow along the stone wall near here. Due to Government intervention (unfortunatley), the little footbridge is no longer here. The Government says that it was a restriction to the flow of the creek, so in at least 3 places stones have been placed in the creek to cross to the other side (talk about water restrictions)) to get to the pavilion on the other side. However, the Government won't allow mowing to be done on that side of the creek around the pavilion, but weedwackin' has taken place.
The Church Picnic did take place this year, and the Young-un's enjoyed playing in the waters dammed up behind those rocks across the water. Horse shoe pits weren't ready yet, as well as the ball diamond. (Had the citizens been able to take control of the repair of the park, it would have all been done last summer and at a fraction of the cost; and done right.) Come back again some other time and see if more progress has taken place, and see what a truly cool park this can be.
Park gates are closed Oct. to Apr. so parking will have to be made along the gravel road running adjacent to the park, and walked to from there.
