The cache is placed on a small island on the Swift River accessible by watercraft.
The cache is placed on a small island on the Swift River that has no name that we know of. I believe the island is only accessible using a watercraft. At the time of placement there were six other hides on this section of the Swift River. We have accessed all of them using a canoe co-skippered by seven year old. The preferable access to the other caches seems to be by the trail that follows the river. We wanted to encourage kayak/canoe caching that we enjoy so much. It would likely take a full day to make all the finds along the river. The current on this river is weak so paddling backup stream to the boat ramp has never been a problem. The hide is slightly less then one mile by water from the boat ramp. The hardest part will be finding a landing for your watercraft because of the step banks. The vegetation on the banks can be a challenge too. My kids were able to access GZ while wearing shorts and sandals so it is manageable. The high terrain difficulty comes from the watercraft requirement. We spotted a muskrat escaping into a bank burrow as we paddled up to the island which is why my daughter wanted to name the cache Muskrat Island. The hide is a nested Lock n Lock inside a plastic ammo box with a bagged log sheet inside a pill bottle. Parking and public boat ramp can be found near N42.14.532 W072.20.137 off Cold Spring Road.
